At Bayswood we like to grow our own

Not many people are aware that the extensive grounds of our Dane View Care Home (Leicester) contain a wonderful orchard, which was planted by nuns when the home was a convent. The orchard's apples are nearing ripeness and will be used by our chefs to bake some lovely apple pies/crumples. The orchard's plumbs are growing and will be ready for picking later this summer. A few of our residents will help with the harvesting and most will enjoy eating the pies, no doubt.

Not to be outdone, our Park View Care Home (South Shore, Blackpool) also has a lovely orchard with apples now ripening nicely, in readiness to pick soon. Whereas some companies might consider selling off or building on such land, at Bayswood Care Group, we consider the orchards sacrosanct. The pleasure our residents derive from spending time in the orchards is a joy to behold. The whole process of growing and picking the orchards’ produce feeds into the well-being of everybody.

Finally, as mentioned above, the apples and plums are used by our in-house chefs to bake delicious pies. The double whammy for residents of growing and then eating such nutritional food is a seasonal experience that we all enjoy and look forward to.

PS – The herb garden at Park View is now also taking shape. There will be more about the herb garden on the @parkviewcarehomewithnursing Facebook page over the coming weeks.
