Helping Residents feel more at home

Dementia Care is a subtle art.

Creating a comfortingly secure home environment for residents is paramount. The management team at our Dane View Care Home in Leicester realised that the wooden room doors didn’t look too inviting, so decided to follow advice from dementia specialists and make the room entrances appear more like those of a real house.

Our wonderful maintenance team got to work and have transformed the corridor along the specialist ‘Butterflies’ unit with an array of different colour doors – with each door getting shiny new numbering.

Such an approach to dementia care is important to help residents identify their own rooms more easily and give them a better sense of belonging. The doors are just one of several new initiatives taken in recent weeks to help improve the environment for residents and their visiting loved ones.
